My work examines the complicity of photographs in the perpetuation of hegemonic systems of visual culture. I am interested in using images to develop visual counter culture.
How are photographs used as a tool to instigate desires that sustain capitalist economies?
We live in a mass media society where photographs are tools of consumer culture that play a pivotal role within the ways in which we come to understand ourselves and our world socially. I reclaim, repurpose, and re-present images and prompt interrogations of self-hood, presenting them with texts to offer alternative narratives.
I believe the act of seeing and the act of photographing are indivisible. I use the camera to address the question: what is the power of sight?
